Epoxy Applications in this Modern Time

Epoxy is a kind of glue formed from the reaction of polyamine and epoxide, thus the name polyepoxide. As a thermosetting polymer material, polyepoxides find many uses in different fields such as manufacturing, electronics, biology and art. In the modern world, epoxy applications are very extensive and in demand.

Practical Uses of Epoxy Floor Applications

One property of epoxy-based material is that it is an excellent adhesive. When ordinary glue is not sufficient, these types of adhesives come handy in binding materials such as wood, metal, glass, stone, and plastic. As such, these are widely applied on aircrafts, automobiles, and sports equipment. Epoxy are used in the manufacture of golf clubs, bicycles, snowboards, boats, skis, and almost everything used in modern sports. In buildings and homes, epoxy coatings are commonly used when a waterproof, resistant and durable type of paint is needed. Thus, it is wide applications on garage floors and warehouses. As powder coatings, it is commonly used to prevent corrosion of steel pipes and potable water pipelines. This is especially needed in oil and gas industries and in the piping needed to transmit drinking water to households. In the food industry, epoxy applications also make it possible for people to consume canned goods without the fear that the food is contaminated with chemicals possibly present in the can either made from tin-coated steel or sometimes aluminium. These cans are usually coated with epoxy to prevent rusting. The excellent corrosion resistant property of epoxy is important especially when the foods to be preserved in cans are acidic like tomatoes or others with acidic additives.

In the field of electronics, epoxy is a leader material. It is engaged in motors, generators, transformers, switchgears, bushings, and insulators. Nowadays, there are already many manufacturers and formulators of epoxy resins in the market offering electrical, mechanical, and chemical superiority of their products. As electronic insulator, it protects electrical components from moisture, dusts and dirt, and it prevents short circuits. Also, it is a moulding compound and used to encapsulate semi-conductor devices in integrated circuits due to its low stress and high thermal conductivity properties and in the production of printed circuit boards. Epoxy resins have also high adhesion in different circuit board substrates and known as the lowest-cost solder mask used for example on circuit boards.

The Creative Side of Epoxy Floor Applications

Interestingly, epoxy does not find its importance in the fields of technology alone. Nowadays, the low odor and solvent free epoxy resins are also used as art media, coatings in artwork, in creating glittering jewels such as necklaces, bangles, earrings and rings. In architecture and design, epoxy resins finds its unique applications in decorative floorings such as terrazzo flooring, chip flooring, and colored aggregates flooring.

The usefulness of epoxy in San Diego does not end in the shine, glitters, and gloss it provides. In biological applications, biological samples such as fossils and other materials like tissues, cells, or organ cultures are commonly embedded in an epoxy-slide for microscopic examinations. It is also used to attach tags or labels to live species that are under scientific studies.
